Who Really Does the Healing?

Have you ever stopped to ask yourself what healing really is?  If not, it may surprise you to know that doctors and drugs don’t do the healing….. you do!  Only your body can heal itself.

We doctor’s can’t form scar tissue in your body, heal a cut on your finger, or mend a broken bone in your leg.  We can’t recreate new, healthy cells to replace the old, sick and dying ones in your body.

We can only do these things for us in our bodies, and in exactly the same way, only your body can heal you.

What is Healing?

Healing is the regeneration of new life on a cellular level.  Our bodies are composed of approximately 100 trillion cells, each designed to undergo a different function to make and keep our bodies healthy.  Nearly all the cells in our bodies are in a constant state of ‘replace and replenish‘; old, sick, diseased and dead cells being flushed out and new healthy cells formed to replace them.  In fact, nearly 1/3rd of the volume of our daily waste products are diseased, worn out or dead cells being removed from our bodies.

For example, when we cut our finger, new cells rush in to form and heal the cut without any conscious thought of our own.  We can actually see this miracle taking place, but did you know your body heals on the inside – exactly the same way?

Some cells live very short lives, such as the membranes in our bowels.  These cells only live a few minutes.

Others, such as cartilage cells, can often live up to seven years.  Muscle cells live several weeks, while bone and organ cells live several months.  In general, your body replaces itself about every seven years.

Your Nervous System is the Life-Line of Health

All the cells in your body are in a constant state of replenishment, except for one kind.  The cells of your central nervous system (brain, spinal cord and first inch of your spinal nerves) do not have the capability of regenerating at all.

This is why maintaining a healthy spine is so important, because once your central nervous system is damaged…. it’s damaged for life!  Then, so are the structures and organs which depend upon those nerves to provide you with good health.

All healing in your body is controlled by your brain, and your brain communicates the messages of healing through your nerves which run through your spine.

In 1992, it was found that your nerves even have a direct link to your immune system!   Because of nervous system interference in their spine, many people suffer more frequent colds, flu’s and infections and other diseases than they otherwise would if their spine was free of such interference.

Because your nervous system controls all healing, and because your nerves run through your vertebrae, this is why chiropractors pay so much attention to your spine.

Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late

At times, some sick people find they must put synthetic chemicals into their bodies to replace the chemicals their body can no longer produce for itself.

However, many people find that rather than adding dangerous, artificial chemicals into their bodies not originally intended to be there, their problems are actually resolved by correcting spinal dysfunction to increase the flow of healing nerve energy so the body can heal itself.

This must be accomplished before permanent damage to the nerves and organs has allowed your body to go beyond its natural ability to repair itself.

No one wants to finally come upon the answer they were looking for, only to find that the time has passed and their opportunity is now behind them.

Give Your Body It’s Best Chance

Many of life’s seemingly complex problems have very simple answers once we know how and where to look for them.  As more people than ever before begin ‘tuning in’ to their bodies, the appreciation for the unique science, art and philosophy of chiropractic continues to rise dramatically.

Unlike any other health profession, the unique role of chiropractic is to find areas of blockage in the nerve energy in your spine and seek to remove it, so the body has the best chance to heal itself – like it was designed to.

Chiropractic is safe, natural and drug free.  It helps prevent premature body breakdown, and enhances body function, body performance and provides for a higher quality of life.  Equally important, chiropractic honors your body’s inborn healing wisdom, empowering you to be the best you can be.

Empowering you for a change?  Yes indeed, chiropractic IS different!    Enjoy it!

Low Back Pain, Neck Pain, Sciatic Leg Pain and Spinal Disc Decompression Therapy.

Your Spine – Only As Strong As Its Weakest Link

Like a chain, your spine is only as strong as its weakest link.  Healthy discs usually equal a healthy spine.  Bad discs equal an unhealthy one.  The weakest links in your spine are usually damaged discs that go through silent decay without symptoms.  This is why back pain is often called “a silent epidemic.”

Discs are made up of two parts.  The outer aspect of the disc is called the annulus fibrosis.  It is layered together like the rings of an onion, and is known as the containment ring that holds in the nucleus.

The nucleus is the inner part of the disc containing a pressurized gel-like substance, that when contained within the annulus forms the shock absorbing qualities of the spinal discs.   The discs also form a joint between each vertebra in order that the spine can bend, flex, turn and rotate from side to side.

When the annular containment ring weakens or breaks through, as is found in cases of disc bulges and ruptures, the question that arises is “what do I do now?”

Conservative First – Invasive Last

About 50% of spinal surgeries are successful providing a true blessing to those who have no other option.  However, the other 50%, known as failed back surgery syndrome, either fail at the time of surgery or within three years of the procedure.

Often, these surgeries leave the individual with more pain than before they had the surgery.  Additionally, many surgical failures of the spine lead to multiple repeat surgeries.   Once the first surgical failure occurs, there is usually no turning back leaving one with permanent pain and disability much like a nightmare they can’t wake from.

There have been many changes and advances in spinal disc surgery in the past couple of decades, including micro surgery, artificial disc and so on, but no matter what new procedure comes to the forefront, the 50/50 success-failure ratio of spinal disc surgery changes very little.   Success or failure in spinal surgery is essentially a coin flip.

Because of all this and more, surgical intervention for correction of a bad disc should be utilized only after all non-surgical alternatives have been exhausted.

New Hope For Bad Backs and Necks

There is a wonderful non-surgical alternative available that has helped hundreds of thousands of people to reduce or eliminate pain, and/or avoid spinal surgery.

It’s called Non-Surgical Disc Decompression Therapy, and it frequently works even when nothing else will.  In fact, it often works even for those who have previously had surgery.

Conditions frequently helped through Spinal Disc Decompression therapy include bulging disc, protruded disc, herniated disc, prolapsed disc, disc dehydration, disc decay, disc degeneration, disc desiccation, disc thinning, disc wedging, sciatic leg pain, spinal arthritis, spinal stenosis, hip pain, facet syndrome, facet arthrosis, foraminal encroachment, nerve root compression, spinal cord compression, nerve impingement, failed back surgery, or pain, numbness or tingling in the legs or feet; arms, hands or fingers – are the most common conditions that frequently respond favorably with Disc Decompression Therapy.

Not everyone can be saved from surgery, but with success rates as high as 88%, condition dependant, non-surgical disc decompression therapy carries with it a higher success percentage than even that of surgery itself.

We Stand Ready To Help

ChiroCenter is pleased to offer the people of Troy and surrounding communities more available disc decompression equipment options than any other spinal care facility in our area that we are aware of, and we offer the most time-tested, non-surgical techniques available in the field of back care.  This is just one of the reasons why our percentage of success is so high for so many people.

With 30 years of practice experience, we’ve helped thousands of people with troubled disc reduce pain and avoid spinal surgery.  A complimentary conference with the doctor will allow us to discuss your concerns and help decide upon the best approach for you.

Posture Pain, Postural Challenges, Children and Chiropractic

Posture Is A Very Overlooked Cause Of Pain!

Do you have a child who is expressing to you some kind of pain complaint?  If you’ve never considered it as a potential source of pain, please be aware that childhood postural distortion is one of the leading causes of difficult to trace pain in children of all ages.

No Such Thing…… As “Normal” Growing Pains

In children, unlevel posture (aka bad or poor posture), is a common denominator of most mysterious pain syndromes of the musculoskeletal system known as “normal growing pains.”

Please be aware there is no such thing as “NORMAL” pain.  All pain has a cause, and in a large majority of ‘growing pain’ cases, unlevel posture is that cause.

Because “growing pains” are not well understood by a vast majority in the health care professions, these early warning signals of impending problems are seldom given the credence and attention they deserve.

As a result, their cause is seldom ever addressed properly and the destructive consequences show up only when the child has grown older.

School Posture Exams

In general, most postural distortions are found by nurses doing scoliosis exams in schools.  In those cases where a potential problem seems to exist, many children are referred to an orthopedist who generally takes an x-ray to check into the finding.  Except in severe cases of scoliosis, this is generally as far as it goes, with perhaps a follow-up appointment being set up in six months to a year to follow the progress of the condition.

Perhaps the postural distortion that is found is not causing pain at the time it and is more or less dismissed.  Essentially, this approach is inadvertently doing little more than watching the underlying cause of the problem grow worse until a pain producing problem develops later on.  This is fairly dangerous thinking, as it is always easier to correct a problem in its beginning stages rather than later on when the challenge has had time to grow.

Essentially, when a child is experiencing unexplained pain, their little skeletal structures are asking for help, but most doctors dismiss “growing pains” as “normal” because few professionals understand them enough to offer assistance.

As a result, “growing pains” are frequently left improperly or unaddressed altogether, and then allowed time to grow worse.

Common Childhood Complaints Caused By Unlevel Posture

Headaches, vision problems, neck or back pain, burning or tightness in the neck or back, pain between the shoulder blades, pain when bending or twisting, restricted movements, pinching sensations, fatigue, poor concentration and focus, nervousness and anxiety.

Actually, any complaint that an adult can experience is also commonly found in children.

The wonderful thing about kids and chiropractic is that their spines have not yet had time to harden into adulthood.

This natural flexibility of youth means that for most children, they respond quite nicely to chiropractic treatment.

Soft Touch Techniques For Kids

At ChiroCenter, we have many soft touch techniques that help take the fear out of going to a chiropractor for children.

In general, the chiropractor often becomes a child’s favorite doctor, especially when their pain can be eliminated without traditional “yucky” pills or painful shots.

Because so many childhood postural problems do not begin producing pain until adulthood after they have had time to wear down their structure, one of the most special gifts that a parent can give a child is that of good posture as they grow into adulthood.

Take An At-Home Posture Test

If your child is complaining of mysterious pain, don’t be too quick to accept the “normal growing pains” consensus.  ALL pain has a cause.  Consider the possibility of unlevel posture as the underlying cause of their pain.  Even minor structural distortions can cause significant challenges.   No one wants to see a child hurt, and we’ve helped hundreds of kids overcome pain and get back to enjoying their youth.
